Public Survey on Liquid Armor Technology

Survey about public perceptions of shear-thickening fluids and their potential use in protective equipment.

In short:

Shear-thickening fluids (sometimes referred to as liquid armor) are fluids that become stiff when hit or impacted, then return to a flexible state. They are being developed for helmets, body armor, knee/elbow pads, and other protective gear. Please share your thoughts in this 5-7 minute survey.

Description

You are invited to participate in a research survey on public perceptions of shear thickening fluid (STF) technology. This survey is part of a doctoral research project at Hamburg University of Technology (TUHH).

Purpose of the study

The aim is to understand how people perceive the benefits, risks, and acceptability of STF-based protective products (e.g., body armor, helmets, sports protection). Your responses will help inform academic research on technology acceptance and communication.

What participation involves

  • The survey takes about 5 minutes to complete.
  • It includes questions about your awareness, opinions, and willingness to use or support such technologies.
  • Participation is entirely voluntary.

Data handling and privacy

  • Your responses are anonymous. The survey does not collect your name, email address, or other direct identifiers unless you voluntarily provide them in open-ended questions.
  • IP addresses are anonymized and cannot be linked back to you.
  • Data will be stored on a secure cloud service  and accessed only by the research team.
  • Results will be analyzed in aggregate. Any quotations used in reports or publications will be anonymized and presented in a way that does not identify individual participants.
  • Data will be retained until project end and then deleted/archived in line with TUHH’s data retention policy.

Voluntary participation and withdrawal

  • Participation is voluntary.
  • You may stop the survey at any time before submitting your responses. Once submitted, responses cannot be linked back to you, so withdrawal after submission is not possible.
